Born in 2004, Serving the Community Grant has awarded over $1.2 million to non-profit organizations in the Korean American community or agencies who serve the Korean American population in the Greater Los Angeles area. In 2008 alone, 56 organizations received the grant a total of over $300,000.
The purpose of Serving the Community Grant is to enhance or expand current programs and/or strengthen the capacity of agencies to better serve the Korean American Community and its surrounding communities, thereby improving and impacting the lives of Korean Americans. In addition, the grants are generally intended to support organizations to continue services where traditional sources of funding may be inadequate or unavailable.
